The development of a bio-based economy has been emphasized in the EU Green Deal as a strategy to transition away from non-renewable energy and materials, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Materials, textiles, fuel, and base chemicals all face the challenge of quitting fossil fuels. The bio-movement has started; targets have been set, investment funds allocated, and numerous digital platforms are already monitoring various aspects for a wide range of users. However, one downside of digitalization is the overload of information, often fragmented, repetitive, and scattered.
About the Biobased Transitions Team
Biobased Transitions is a small, newly formed team within MNEXT researching the switch from fossil fuel reliance to circular and biobased through the lens of the (petro)chemical industry. While bio-technologies are emerging, questions remain surrounding the uptake of biobased projects, the barriers preventing large and small companies from gaining ground, and the capacity to produce enough biomass to meet projected demand. The team takes a multi-faceted approach to understand and influence the transition, with the goal of accelerating the production of biobased chemicals in the Netherlands and beyond.
About the Project
This initiative focuses on creating a comprehensive inventory of open-access online platforms and databases related to the bioeconomy at the Dutch level. The project will involve a detailed analysis of data sources, target audiences, stakeholders, and other critical dimensions. Depending on your progress and expertise, the scope may expand to include platforms at the European level. The goal is to consolidate scattered resources into a centralized reference, helping identify information gaps and clarifying where additional data is needed.
Estimated plan (20 weeks)
- Literature research on bioeconomy and related fields
- Screening databases available
- Organizing and analyzing gathered information
- Report and final presentation
