Biopolymer Application Centre

The Biopolymer Application Centre (BAC) is MNEXT’s facility where you develop, test, and translate biobased and circular polymers into practical applications. In this practical environment, research, education, and industry collaborate on new biopolymers, smart processing methods, and products ready for practical use.

Location Breda

What is the Biopolymer Application Centre?

The Biopolymer Application Center is designed as a professional development and testing facility for biobased and recycled polymers. It features equipment for formulating, compounding, processing, and characterizing biopolymers. This makes the BAC the link between laboratory research and application in products and processes at companies.

Companies can contact the centre with questions about using bioplastics, replacing fossil-based plastics, or increasing the biobased and recycled content of their materials. Researchers and students join us to collaborate with you in developing and validating new materials and applications.

Connected to education and research

Like the other MNEXT facilities, the BAC is strongly connected to education, companies and other organizations.

  • Lectureships and research tracks
Within the Biopolymer Application Centre, lectureships and research groups are working on biobased building blocks, sustainable materials, and circular design strategies. By combining knowledge from materials science, chemistry, process technology, and design, integrated solutions for the transition to biobased and circular plastics are created.
  • Education: MBO–HBO–Professionals
Students from relevant programs contribute to the BAC’s current research and development challenges from companies. They learn to work with professional plastics processing equipment, perform material testing, and assist in the development of prototypes and demonstrators. This creates a learning track in which MBO, HBO, and professional students strengthen each other.
  • External partners
The Biopolymer Application Centre is specifically designed for companies, government agencies, and other organizations that want to advance in biobased and circular polymers. Research and development processes are set up together with you, ranging from feasibility studies and material selection to prototype development and scale-up testing.
