Even though lignin is one of the most abundant biopolymers on earth, there are very limited commercial applications of lignin. Traditionally, lignin, obtained as a side product from the paper and bio-ethanol industry, was burned for energy production. However, since lignin is one of the few biopolymers carrying a phenolic structure, more applications with a higher added value are possible. For example, lignin potentially can form a replacement for oil-derived phenolic compounds like phenol and thus form a biobased alternative thereof.
During this webinar we will discuss what lignin is and what the possibilities for (commercial) applications are, both from a commercial and research perspective. Insights will be shared by Karin Struijs (HAN University of Applied Sciences) and Sten van Lanen (Miscancell).
