The research group conducts research in the field of building blocks of biobased polymers (biobased plastics). By acquiring knowledge about, for example, the insulation, modification and source of the building blocks, applications can be developed with certain chemical and physical properties, such as degradability and possibilities for recycling. This can help to close the material cycles of plastics, and thus make them circular.
In addition, researchers from the research group are looking for ingredients from biomass that can be used as additives in, for example, cosmetics or plastics. In this way, biobased alternatives can be proposed for synthetic products such as dyes, plasticizers, flame retardants and stabilizers.
What does the research group offer?
The Biobased Building Blocks & Products research group works on technological solutions for business and social issues in the field of the biobased economy. For this purpose, we have a well-equipped laboratory for raw material extraction, chemical modification, polymerizations and characterization. In collaboration with the Biopolymer Application Center, the development of prototypes and zero series is also possible. In short, if you are looking for a solution or have a question about the biobased economy, please contact us! We will be happy to discuss with you whether and how we can address the question and what the possibilities are for financing.
You can also participate in research in the research group as a student! Students can think of contributions in the form of minor, internship and/or graduation assignments.
