Meaningful work
The Smart Energy research group focuses on smart, integrated energy systems, with research into topics such as grid congestion, smart grids, energy storage and energy hubs. The Renewable Energy Carriers research group focuses on the production, storage and application of sustainable energy carriers, including hydrogen, hydrogen derivatives and metal fuels, for sectors that cannot easily be electrified directly.
As coordinator, you monitor the organisational, financial and staffing processes within both research groups. You track progress, identify potential bottlenecks and support the professors of practice in decision-making around capacity, projects, staffing and budgets. You will work closely with professors of practice, researchers, management assistants and fellow coordinators within MNEXT.
You are responsible for coordinating and optimising the day-to-day organisation of both research groups. You monitor processes, support the preparation of research group meetings and keep track of research output. You also coordinate workload, billable hours and capacity based on project, hours and capacity data. In addition, you contribute to strategic workforce planning, onboarding new colleagues and recruitment and selection processes.
You support research projects and acquisition processes and contribute to their coordination, planning and progress. You also support the financial operations of the research groups and help monitor budgets and capacity allocation. Within MNEXT, you also play a connecting role in the network of coordinators, contributing to knowledge sharing, consistent ways of working and effective collaboration between the different research groups.
Your place as a Research Group Coordinator at Avans
The MNEXT Centre of Expertise focuses on the materials and energy transition. MNEXT is a collaboration between Avans University of Applied Sciences and HZ University of Applied Sciences, working with SMEs to develop innovations that benefit society. We are an international team of around 100 passionate colleagues. MNEXT currently consists of seven research groups, where researchers, professors of practice, lecturers and students work together on practice-oriented research and societal challenges.
You will work for the Smart Energy and Renewable Energy Carriers research groups. You will join an international research environment, working with researchers, lecturers and partners from the Netherlands and abroad. A significant part of our communication and meetings takes place in English. What the teams have in common is an open, engaged and supportive culture where colleagues easily connect and collaboration comes naturally.
In this role, you will have plenty of freedom to work independently, introduce improvements and actively contribute ideas to the further development of the research groups and collaboration within MNEXT.
What we offer
We offer an environment where you have the freedom to explore and improve, helping you get the best out of yourself. This includes opportunities for professional development and many other attractive employment benefits. We also offer:
- A monthly salary of €3,667 to €5,154 gross based on a full-time position (scale 9, Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences collective labour agreement).
- An end-of-year bonus, approximately equivalent to a 13th month’s salary.
- A permanent position. If you currently have a temporary contract with Avans, the duration of your existing temporary contract will remain unchanged. Towards the end of your contract, a permanent position may become possible, subject to good performance and unchanged organisational circumstances. If you already have a permanent contract, your employment agreement will remain unchanged and this position will become your new workplace within Avans.
What you bring
You are able to maintain an overview in an environment where different processes, projects and interests come together. You analyse information, identify connections and translate these into clear advice for professors of practice and other colleagues. You navigate the organisation with ease and know how to build connections between research groups, teams and support services.
You work independently, take initiative and switch easily between operational tasks and more tactical-level challenges. You also actively contribute to knowledge sharing, collaboration and the continuous improvement of processes and ways of working within MNEXT.
You also bring:
- At least a completed bachelor’s degree (higher professional education level).
- Experience in project coordination, operations, programme management or a similar role.
- Experience with financial processes, capacity planning and staffing-related matters.
- Experience with Excel and working with reports, dashboards and management information.
- Good command of both Dutch and English.
How we will support you
You will join an established role within MNEXT, with plenty of knowledge and experience to draw on. Colleagues will introduce you to the work, systems and collaborations within the research groups, helping you quickly find your place within the network of researchers, professors of practice and coordinators.
