So far, there are few biobased alternatives to concrete for making water-resistant wall panels for wet areas like bathrooms. These alternative products are urgently needed, as concrete has a huge ecological footprint. The Biobased Wet Cell project aims to reduce that footprint.
During this Lunch & Learn session, Marianna Coelho, Researcher & Coordinator Biobased Building at MNEXT, will discuss the RAAK-mkb ‘Biobased Wet Cell’ project, which focuses on developing biobased solutions for wet areas like bathrooms. The project addresses the challenge of creating materials that are both environmentally friendly and water-resistant. Marianna will explain how the initial idea of biobased wall and floor tiles evolved into the design of a complete “wet cell” made from biobased materials, an innovation that offers more benefits for the region. She will also share the project’s progress and how various mixtures are currently being tested in collaboration with students.
