Beauti-Fully Biobased Fibers

Project description

The use of large quantities of synthetic dyes in textile production has a strong impact on the environment. These synthetic dyes are not degradable in the environment and often contain harmful and toxic chemicals. Dyeing textiles with synthetic dyes is considered to be the second largest pollutant of clean water in the countries where production takes place. (eg Bangladesh, China, India). Branch organization Modint and Contactgroep Textiel, together with industrial partners, are actively looking for alternatives to these polluting chemicals. Natural dyes are one possible solution that can prevent this problem.

The problem with current alternatives in the form of natural dyes is that these dyes fall short in the desired intensity and light stability and, moreover, are not offered at a competitive price.

Project Objective

The goal of the Beauti-Fully Biobased Fibers project is to develop sustainable, renewable dyes with improved lightfastness and color intensity for discoloration of (biobased) synthetic textile fibers.

Financing

The Beauti-Fully Biobased Fibers project is co-financed by the SIA, part of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).
